Substance-use disorders are among the major public health problems worldwide and are among major contributors to increased morbidity and mortality. This is more than the number of deaths from all cancers. Over 350,000 die from overdoses (alcohol and illicit drug use disorders) each year.

The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine reported on a study that showed an increase in the levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) with the practice of yoga techniques. GABA is a kind of natural tranquilizer produced by the brain to help manage anxiety and stress response. Higher levels of GABA usually mean less anxiety and less stress. Stress, anxiety, and depression are common side effects of drug withdrawal, and the use of yoga in recovery may actually work to improve these symptoms.

A study published by Harvard Health on a group of women who reported themselves to be “emotionally distressed” practiced yoga for 1.5 hours twice a week. At the end of three months, half reported less depression, a third cited fewer anxiety symptoms, and 65 percent claimed an increase in overall wellbeing. Over 80 percent of the people practicing yoga in the United States, according to a National Health Interview Study (NHIS) in 2012 published by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), reported a reduction in their stress levels as a result.

Various Yoga poses and associated breathing exercises have an influential role in alleviating the symptoms of mental disorders.  Yoga has long been used to help relieve stress, and scientific evidence has provided a link between practicing yoga and the reduction of stress by modulation of the stress response, Harvard Health reports. When a person feels stress, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, and body temperature increase. Yoga may actually act on this system by regulating and balancing some of the stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline.

透過練習各種瑜伽動作和呼吸法能有效緩解精神緊張。Harvard Health 的健康報告指出,科學已 證明練習瑜伽能調節及增強身心的抗壓能力。當人感到壓力時,心率,血壓,呼吸和體溫都會上 升。練習瑜伽可調節和平衡一些壓力激素 (如皮質醇和腎上腺素)。


The Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers (SARDA) was established in 1961 to give aid, to treat and to take all steps to rehabilitate drug abusers and to raise awareness about drug abuse. Andiappan Yoga Community is now partnering with SARDA to bring the benefits of yoga to the people who are drug abusers.

" Therapeutic Yoga Course for Female Residents of Adult Female Rehabilitation Centre, SARDA"- The free course organized by Andiappan Yoga Community. Andiappan Yoga Community partners with the Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers- share yoga therapy with female drug rehabilitates. 

Yoga helps female drug rehabilitates to connect mind, body, and breath to enhance self-awareness and focus attention inward. Meditation and Relaxation reduce female drug rehabilitates’ negative emotions and provide them the capability to cope with potential triggers and daily life stressors. Women’s overall health and wellness will also be improved. 

婦女戒毒康復瑜伽治療課程 - 由Andiappan瑜伽社區舉辦的免費課程。Andiappan Yoga Community 夥伴香港戒毒會成年婦女康復中心為女性戒毒者分享瑜伽治療。

瑜伽幫助女性戒毒康復者可以連結思想、身體和呼吸,並提升自我覺察能力和內在專注力。瑜伽放鬆和冥想能幫助女性戒毒康復者減輕負面情緒,並提升她們的能力去應對潛在危機和日常的生活壓力。婦女們的整體的健康狀況也會得到改善。

The Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers (SARDA) is established in 1961, the largest voluntary drug rehabilitation organization in Hong Kong. It adopts a medical and psycho-social counseling model and provides diversified voluntary treatment and rehabilitation services, free of charge to drug abusers.

香港戒毒會於1961年成立,為全港最大型的志願戒毒機構。會方以醫療及社會心理輔導模式,免費為自願人士提供多元化的戒毒治療及康復服務。

The Adult Female Rehabilitation Centre (AFRC) is one of the residential drug treatment and rehabilitation centers of SARDA. It is established in 1997, providing 3 to 12 months of voluntary residential drug treatment and rehabilitation service to adult female drug abusers above the age of 30.

香港戒毒會成年婦女康復中心是香港戒毒會轄下其中一間戒毒治療及康復中心,成立於1997年,專為30歲以上 的成年婦女濫藥人士,提供三至十二個月的自願性住 院式戒毒康復治療。

Guide Line 3: Online Class General Teaching guidelines:

  1. Volunteer teachers who wish to teach the online class at the Anahata Yoga studio, please visit the 8/F Admin office and teach in the private room. 
  2. Arrive 10 mins before the start of the class and switch on the TV and login with the relevant zoom link. 
  3. If you need help, please use the phone and call 33 (Anahata yoga reception) one of our reception staff can come to assist you. 
  4. Please switch off the TV, Aircon, and the lights after the class. 
  5. Always teach basic and simple poses.
  6. Keep consistency in the sequence, not necessary to change the sequence for each class.
  7. Keep regular self-practice/ discussion with experienced masters/ attending specialized courses and teach different groups of people will enhance your teaching knowledge.
  8. Teach the class a grounding and relaxing approach with breathing methods. Encourage a gentle and mindful practice.
  9. Understand that our target students are from different backgrounds with different body conditions and lifestyles. Most of them don’t have exposure to a proper yoga class or have a full understanding of what is yoga. Hence our classes are aimed to provide a distress, relaxing and mindful practice for students at all levels. 
  10. Advanced poses, partner yoga poses, and inversions are not allowed to teach in any of the AYC community classes.
  11. Please do not exchange any personal information with the participants. 
  12. Avoid giving any medical advice or discussing personal matters with the participants. 
  13. Please write your class observation during your attendance registration in AYC app so that other students can understand the class and the students better. If you have any questions about the classes, please seek advice from the project leader of that project.

教學指引三: 網上瑜伽課堂

  1. 義工老師如需於Anahata的瑜伽室內教授網上瑜伽課,請預先聯絡Anahata接待處並預約房間。
  2. 請在課堂開始前十分鐘到達瑜伽室,使用房間內的電視或電腦登入Zoom及開始課堂。
  3. 如需協助,請使用房間內的電話並致電33(Anahata接待處) 聯絡職員。
  4. 上課後,請關閉電視/電腦,空調和燈光。
  5. 所有網上課堂,我們鼓勵義工老師教授基本和簡單的瑜伽動作。亦建議每位老師教授的課堂內容盡量保持一致,令同學能循序漸進地學習。
  6. 義工老師需多自修和練習,向經驗豐富的老師學習,持續進修,透過教導不同的學生,增加及累積經驗。
  7. 義工老師應多鼓勵同學練習瑜伽中能使人放鬆的呼吸法,老師亦應耐心及溫和地教導學生。
  8. 了解及尊重學生們來自不同背景,具有不同的身體狀況和生活方式,而大多數同學對瑜伽亦沒有充分的理解。因此我們的課堂宗旨是為各階層的學生提供一些減壓,放鬆和正念的練習。
  9. 所有AYC課堂應避免教授雙人瑜伽,任何高難度及倒立動作。
  10. 請不要與學生交換任何個人資料。
  11. 避免提供任何醫學上的建議或討論任何個人問題及身體狀況。
  12. 義工老師請於AYC的應用程式上寫下你所教授的課堂資料和感想,讓其他學生能更理解課堂內容,和吸引更多同學參與。如您對課堂有任何疑問,請向該課堂的負責義工查詢。
