Completed

THIS PROGRAMME IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Andiappan Yoga Community (AYC) partners with Youth Outreach School of Hip Hop to teach yoga to at-risk youth. In this program, AYC volunteers teach young break dancers the fundamentals of yoga, especially flexibility, strength, and balance, but also patience and self-control.

“The few times I visited the class, you can see that the students are engaged. They pay close attention to the instructor and are eager to do the poses. As in every class, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. But it’s exciting and heartening to see these young men take yoga seriously and give it their best.” — Andiappan Yoga Community Volunteer Coordinator Foster Barnes

”It’s nice to see that young break-dancers are interested in learning yoga. Apart from the physical benefits they seek, I hope they can enjoy the complete experience of yoga.” — Andiappan Yoga Community Volunteer Project Leader Ivan Li

Ivan Li is the project leader for the Youth Outreach, School of Hip Hop yoga program.

He is addicted to gymnastics and tricking. Constant practice leaves his body sore and stiff and he finds yoga the solution to the issue. Continued yoga practice not only gives him physical benefits, but also soothes his mind. Ivan has been certified with 200 hours of Advanced Hatha teacher training, levels one and two, at International Yoga Academy’s Anahata Yoga in spring 2014.
