Overseas Workers, Sunday, Central, Hong Kong

Andiappan Yoga Community shares yoga with the overseas worker's community in Central, Hong Kong.

“As I deepened my own yoga practice — and saw how I improved physically, mentally and spiritually — I realized that I wanted to share yoga with more people, especially with those who have limited resources. Domestic helpers work tirelessly day in and day out. If they could have a little time dedicated for themselves to do yoga, they would feel alive, refreshed and inspired when they go back to work.” — Andiappan Yoga Community, Overseas Workers, Volunteer Project Leader Louise Vas

Project Leader Louise Vas has reactivated this program for Hong Kong’s overseas worker community. Andiappan Yoga Community’s free yoga class for overseas workers is our largest and fastest growing program, reaching numbers of almost 200 weekly participants. As such, we always are in need of volunteer teachers and assistants. If you’re new to teaching, this is a great place to start. And if you enjoy outdoor yoga classes, all the better. Come be a part of this amazing yoga experience and share the vibe.

Louise Vas

Louise is an advanced Hatha Yoga teacher, having 600 hours of training from the International Yoga Academy (IYA), with Master Yogananth Andiappan as her main teacher. A teacher under Yoga Alliance and IYA, Louise is also the Volunteer Coordinator for the Andiappan Yoga Community (AYC) and project leader of the AYC’s yoga program for overseas workers, organizing and teaching free yoga classes to more than 150 domestic helpers every Saturday and Sunday with a strong team of fellow volunteer teachers.
Louise is constantly amazed at how the human body works especially during a yoga practice, and based on her own experiences, she believes that yoga is for every body, regardless of age, body type, gender, and personal background. Greatly influenced by the teachings of Guruji BKS Iyengar and the Mahabharata, Louise believes that her dharma or life purpose is to promote self-love, share her knowledge and influence more people to practice yoga and enjoy its benefits.
Aside from Hatha Yoga, Louise also teaches pre-natal yoga, restorative classes such as relaxation and de-stress, and other practices like Hatha Flow and power yoga.
Louise is a regular contributor of yoga articles to the Asana International Yoga Journal, breaking down asanas/poses into an accessible step-by-step tutorial.
Currently, Louise teaches at Anahata Yoga in Central, Hong Kong.
