Yoga classes for seniors are becoming increasingly popular - after all, seniors are the fastest growing demographic in yoga!
Mental health problems are common among the elderly aged 60 or above in Hong Kong. Andiappan Yoga Community has partnered with Lok Sin Tong to teach tailor made yoga classes for their needs.
Our highly trained yoga teacher volunteers will teach gentle poses and breathing techniques that help to address depression, and other mental and physical health issues.
We initiated this project on 30th September at Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society where yoga is introduced to seniors. We had over 15 students aged from 60 to above 90. Master Yogananth gave an introduction to the benefits of yoga and explained how yoga can be practiced at any age and how it help arthritis, limited mobility, or other health issues related to ageing, AYC volunteer Coordinator M/s Louise and Volunteer teachers M/s Angela, M/s Vivian and Mr.Edward Wah gor assisted the seniors with great care.
Various gentle yoga poses that can be done seated on a chair and simple breathing techniques were taught to them which they really loved it.
