Yoga Therapy for Pain relief for Care givers – Lok Sin Tong

Caregivers can influence the life of elderly in many ways, including the self-care ability, engage in social interaction, and maintain good mental and physical health.

Family Caregiver Alliance studies show that between 40 to 70% of caregivers have clinically significant symptoms of depression, with approximately one quarter to one half of these caregivers meeting the diagnostic criteria for major depression and about one in ten (11%) caregivers report that caregiving has caused their physical health to get worse.

Reducing the burden of caregivers through Yoga therapies can help them be healthy and in turn care for elderly better.

Caregiver is physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting. Practicing self-care through yoga and meditation can help relieve the stress and anxiety, improving flexibility, balance, pain relief, overall strength and well being.

A survey showed by Finances Online, the majority of respondents said that they agree or strongly agree that yoga had improved their physical health (88%) as well as mental health (86.2%). They also said that it had improved their stress levels (82.6%), their strength (87.1%), and flexibility (91.6%). Moreover, 69.3% of participants reported a change in lifestyle due to their yoga practice while 57.4% reported having better sleep.

Yoga releases feel-good endorphins into the body which facilitate a general sense of well-being, both beneficially to caregiver and elderly.

隨著老年人的功能狀態下降,看護者的抑鬱和負擔相對增加。 研究亦指出大約有十分之一 (11%) 的看護員報告說,因為工作關係導致他們的身體健康狀況逐漸變差。

透過瑜伽療法可以減輕看護員的心理,幫助他們保持健康,進而更好地照顧老年人。看護員在身體上、精神上和情感上都很疲憊。 通過瑜伽和冥想練習能夠緩解壓力和焦慮,提高靈活性、平衡性、緩解疼痛、整體力量和幸福感。

Lok Sin Tong was established in 1880, currently operates more than 50 subsidiary units across the region to offer a wide spectrum of quality services, including the provision of education, medical care and social welfare service. Andiappan Yoga Community is now partnering with Lok Sin Tong to bring the benefits of you to the caregiver groups.

九龍樂善堂1880年正式成為一個慈善機構,服務為多元化,包括:醫療、教育及安老服務等,並積極支持及贊助各項社會公益及文娛教育等活動。現時轄屬機構共達五十多個,分佈遍及港九新界。Andiappan Yoga Community 正與樂善堂合作,將瑜伽的好處帶給一眾看護員。


Who can teach in this project: Andiappan Yoga Community Volunteer Teachers those who have completed a minimum of 200hrs Yoga Teacher Training Course with International Yoga Academy, Hong Kong can apply for this project.  Share the gift of yoga and help us in fulfilling AYC’s mission.
